Passion and Dedication of the Craftsman
The decorative techniques of gold and silver leaf and gold dust that go back to the Heian period are on display in A Story of Japan's Four Seasons, a tabletop mobile elevated to the level of modern art. Composed of four parts each representing a different season, with each season's scenery embodied in the design. Quietly turning in the wafting breezes, the pure gold and silver leaf catches the light, glittering in a myriad of different ways that never grow stale. The heart of the gold dust technique is the process of dusting gold and silver flakes from a tube over washi paper brushed with nikawa glue. To enrich the expression of each season, karakami techniques such as marbling are also incorporated, while other traditional methods such as the use of cut gold and silver leaf and embossing also play their part.
The four seasons of Japan, the dignity of tradition, create a unique radiance, with no two patterns alike.
