Passion and Dedication of the Craftsman

This original product highlights the material, Senshoku-yo Katagami (stencil paper for dyeing), which is meticulously hand-carved with chisels to create patterns and motifs rooted in traditional craftsmanship. The motifs symbolize Japanese good fortune and joy and are crafted onto paper using carving techniques such as "hiki-bori" and "kiri-bori." The ability to refine the pattern while carving is a unique skill exclusive to the handcraftsmanship of artisans. The material is shibugami, formed by layering washi paper treated with kakishibu (persimmon tannin). The product uses katajigami, known for its exceptional durability allowing repeated use as stencils, and iroshibugami, characterized by its vivid hues.
The delicate and beautiful Ise-Katagami, once handled only by artisans, can now be enjoyed in many different ways in everyday life, creating a bright and lively atmosphere. Layering sheets of washi further enhances the beauty of the carved patterns. Using ultra-fine awls rarely used for tenugui or yukata, delicate patterns are precisely carved. A core board is inserted and finished with a water-repellent coating to improve practicality.
