TOKYO Teshigoto

A curled-up and sleeping cat with a happy expression.
It fits snugly in the palm of your hand,
with a mirror built into its underside.
Clad in colourful cloth using the traditional Kimekomi technique,
on closer inspection this sleeping cat has been given form
imparting a sense of the three-dimensional,
with the head being raised slightly higher than the body.
The craftsman, Mr. Kakinuma, re-cast the clay mold repeatedly
to get the effect of having the cat “floating”
in the middle of its round shape just right.
Together with the meticulously designed facial expression,
this makes for a plump and happy-looking cat.
The cats come in nine colours, making it also fun
to have it as a lucky item to promote luck in love,
economic fortune or other areas.
The colourful cushion the cat rests on also doubles
as a pouch to carry the mirror.
You can use it to carry the mirror when out and about,
and as a place to let the cat rest on
in your living room table when you are at home.
This peacefully sleeping cat is sure to bring you good fortune.
