With a myriad of techniques crafted by master artisans, products that stir the soul
Edo Kiriko, which originated in the 19th century, is a traditional craft that incorporates European cut glass techniques. While Satsuma (now Kagoshima Prefecture) is also renowned for its kiriko (cut glassware), known as Satsuma Kiriko, it faced a period of decline after losing the support of its ruling patrons. In contrast, Edo Kiriko, cherished as an everyday item by the common people, has maintained its unbroken lineage of tradition and continues beloved to this day.

Specializing in glass, this store follows in the footsteps of the Shiina Glass Processing Factory, founded by the owner’s grandfather, Mitsuo Shiina, in 1950 (Showa 25). We have developed an entirely new type of Edo Kiriko called Suna-Kiriko, which uniquely combines the rare Edo Kiriko technique of flat surface polishing known as Hira-kiriko with the sandblasting technique of carving glass with sand. The brand’s signature reflections are created by the flat surface polishing technique of the Hira-kiriko craftsman, of whom there are fewer than ten remaining in Japan, while the sandblasting process, allows a polish of 0.09mm and the creation of contemporary patterns. This is a one-of-a-kind piece crafted through the combined skills of master artisans.

This Edo Kiriko takes advantage of the phenomenon where the pattern at the bottom reflects onto the sides when sake is poured into it, and has garnered significant praise from customers, impressing those who appreciate fine sake. Our kiriko glass is perfect for selection, gifting, and the surprise you get when you pour sake into it. Stirring the Soul. This is the mission of GLASS-LAB and our promise to you.
