TOKYO Teshigoto

Tokyo Uchihamono is a blade crafted by combining hard hagane (blade steel) with resilient, flexible jigane (base iron). It developed after the Sword Abolition Edict was promulgated in 1871, prohibiting the possession of Japanese swords and prompting many swordsmiths to change professions. This manufacturing process involves heating the jigane and the hagane, which forms the blade's edge, to about 1,000°C, then swiftly hammering them together to fuse the metals, resulting in the production of knives and scissors. The distinctive characteristics of Tokyo Uchihamono lie not only in its beautiful shape and shine but also in its ability to dissipate unnecessary force, making it flexible with a long-lasting sharp edge that resists chipping.
