A hair ornament born from the kimekomi technique,
“UTSUKUSHI BARETTA”.
The softness brought about by unique curves,
and the gold and silver threads embedded
in wood produce a colour scheme that
incorporates gorgeous fabrics
and traditional Japanese colour combinations,
known as “Kasane no irome”.
The accessories reminiscent of the magnificent world of Hina dolls,
were crafted by the long-established Edo Kimekomi Ningyo
(Wood and Cloth Dolls) studio “Mataro Doll”.
These dolls wear a costume of cloth that is tucked in
with a spatula into the grooves carved
into the touso (hardened wood powder).
The “UTSUKUSHI BARETTA” uses this traditional
touso as mould material, and embeds the cloth
used for the costumes of the Hina dolls using
the Kimekomi technique.
With the Japanese scenery in mind,
four colour variations were created,
they are named “Kurenai” (crimson),
“Shirotae” (white), “Yunagi” (evening calm) and “Kasumi” (haze).
The shape reminiscent of the obi sash of Hina dolls,
inspired the ribbon to tie up the hair.
It can be used not only as a hair ornament,
but also like a brooch.
