A Beautiful Spinning Top Incorporating Traditional Katchu-making Techniques, Designed as Both a Toy and an Interior decoration Piece

The “Gogatsu-ningyo (May dolls),” considered to be amulets that ward off misfortune and calamities, are crafted together with koma (spinning tops), which symbolize “things running smoothly” due to their ability to spin steadily. This combination is created to produce a lucky charm that ensures a “healthy and happy life”.
We selected three popular warlords—Date Masamune, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Sanada Yukimura—and modeled the design on the katchu (samurai armor) each is said to have worn. Distilling the core elements of katchu—kozane (plates) and odoshi (lacing)—together with vivid fabric and kumihimo (braided cords), we translate them into the form of a spinning top, crafted with uncompromising attention to its beauty in motion. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted, compact enough to display even in small spaces, and offers the rare delight—unlike katchu itself—of being handled and played with.
