2022 Tokyo Governor’s Award JANOME KIRIKO GLASS-LAB co., ltd.

The Edo Kiriko Janome (Snake Eye Design) Single Sake Cup
Two techniques are combined to make this piece: the"flat kiriko" Edo kiriko technique, in which the glass is shaved down to a flat surface, and sand blasting, which involves coating the piece with sand and etching a pattern onto it. The result is an all-new style of Japanese sake Edo kiriko. When the sake is poured, the eighteen panels of the glass--plus the "snake eye" pattern on the bottom--dance and play in the light with the look of a kaleidoscope. Taken in your hand, the pattern reveals something new each time.
